Like any family, the British royals are constantly expanding. So you might be asking yourself, just how many great-grandchildren does Queen Elizabeth have? Nowadays, the royal monarch is the proud mom of four, doting grandmother of eight and a great-grandmother of 11 cute kids.
The beloved queen began her family when she tied the knot with her late husband, Prince Philip, in 1947. Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh — who died at age 99 in April 2021 — became the loving mom and dad of their four kids, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew.
As the queen’s children grew up, they went on to create families of their own. Charles shares his two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, with late ex-wife Princess Diana, while Anne is the mom of Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips with ex-husband Mark Phillips. As for Edward, he shares Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn with spouse Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and Andrew is the father of daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie with former wife Sarah Ferguson.
Thanks to her grandchildren’s marriages, the queen is the dedicated great-grandma of Savannah Phillips, Isla Phillips, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Mia Tindall, Lena Tindall, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank and Lucas Philip Tindall. The latest addition is Harry and wife Meghan Markle‘s second child, Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor, who arrived in June 2021.
Her Majesty shares a sweet bond with each of her great-grandchildren, but the iconic royal has a feeling William and wife Duchess Kate Middleton‘s daughter will be the one following in her incredible footsteps. “The queen has already picked up on signs that Charlotte is her mini-me,” an insider exclusively revealed to Closer Weekly in 2019. “She’s confident that her great-granddaughter will grow up to be a great leader and role model.”
The former princess also thinks Harry’s son, Archie, is “the most adorable child,” another source told Closer in April 2020. “Archie [reminds] the queen of when Harry was a baby because they look so alike, although she can see Meghan in him too!” the insider explained. “She can’t believe how much he’s grown and changed.”
Now that great-grandbaby No. 11 is here, we bet Elizabeth is thrilled to watch another one of her youngsters grow up. At the time Meghan and Harry announced the news of daughter Lili’s birth, the queen reacted with a statement, saying she was “delighted” by the little one’s arrival. “Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of Lilibet Diana!” the message read.
That isn’t all for Elizabeth, though, as Princess Beatrice is currently expecting the monarch’s 12th great-grandchild. Beatrice announced her first pregnancy with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, via Buckingham Palace in May 2021.
